Let’s talk about the business practices that need to die in the twenty-twenty four selling season.
Things like door knocking and cold calling have been acceptable business practices for real estate agents, but that needs to change. But just because we can do something doesn’t always mean we should.
Ask yourself, “how do I want to be sold to, personally?” If a stranger shows up on my doorstep, I hit the deck like my home is being invaded. If a telemarketer gets me on the phone, I hang up as fast as possible and resent the intrusion.
I don’t want to be approached that way. So, why would we think that our ideal client wants to be approached that way?
The alternative? Growing your personal brand as a real estate agent so you can stop chasing clients and start attracting them.
How do you begin creating your personal brand as an agent?
1. See Yourself as a Personal Brand
You already have one, whether you admit it or not. Personal branding is simply the digitization and monetization of your reputation. The question is, are you directing it, or are you leaving it up for other people to decide for you?
2. Be Yourself!
You’re never going to see me dancing, lip syncing, or using a puppy filter. No way! That’s just not me, and that’s ok. Your personal brand should be an authentic representation of yourself, your business and your values. Who you already are is all you need to attract your ideal client.
3. Establish Your Strategy
Let’s be real…the hardest thing about marketing and social media is finding the time to actually do it. This is where creating boundaries in your business so you can have some mental whitespace to be creative comes in. And you have to have an easy and effective strategy so you’re not constantly having to make decisions. In the course, I give you several strategies but the simplest is to post what you do on your grid and who you are in your stories.
4. Get Comfortable on Camera
I hate to tell you this, but if you want to continue to grow your business you have to get comfortable on camera. I’ve had a secret weapon that has helped me get comfortable posting videos of myself online. Her name is Victoria and she’s my 14 year old daughter. No one will be faster to tell you when you’re being “cringe” than a 14 year old. If Victoria approved it, I knew it was ok to post.
Social media has given each one of us the ability to have a platform. By being willing to put yourself out there, show up your authentic self, and share your knowledge and experience with the world, you give your ideal client- the one that you’re most powerfully positioned to serve- a chance to find you.
