Doesn’t it seem like every agent is posting non-stop on social media? It certainly feels that way to me! Do you secretly wonder if they’re REALLY getting clients from it, or if they’re just doing it to look busy or successful?
I was messaging with a new follower today who is brand new to the industry. He said that he was frustrated because in his search for help growing his business, he is realizing that so many people sharing social media help for Realtors aren’t actually selling homes. They may have thousands of followers, but as he put it, “if they were actually selling million dollar homes, they probably wouldn’t be selling a social media course for $19.99.”
Valid point, Jeff. I’m going to be sharing a LOT more on this particular topic in the next few weeks (hint: it has to do with my super secret trip to CO). For now, let’s focus on what you REALLY need to know to be successful using social media to build your brand based business and actually generate clients leads- and sales!
If you’re reading this email, you probably ended up on email list after finding me on Insta @elevated_agents, which FINALLY hit 10k followers this week! Yay! And THANK YOU!!
I’m using this account as an example, because my real estate business account @heardnewmanrealestate has been around for a long time, and I just started Elevated Agents last May. Here’s what I’ve learned after over 15 months of intentional, consistent organic growth that YOU can take and use right now in your business.
1. It took 15 months for me to go from zero to 10K followers, which FELT like forever, but also like it happened in a flash. Slow because showing up consistently requires a lot of effort, but fast because I wasn’t focused on the number of followers I had, just making valuable content. Your follower count doesn’t actually matter. @heardnewmanrealestate only has 7K followers, but because we are top of mind with our sphere and past clients, it generates business for us regularly. The consistency of your posts and the value of your content is what turns followers into clients.
2. After consistency, comes comfortability. When we started this account I’d never been on camera. I was nervous, awkward and afraid of being judged. But once I realized that I was really helping people, I got out of my own head and focused on what’s most important- helping my audience overcome THEIR struggles. Remember, people are selfish. They don’t care what you look like, sound like (everyone hates their voice) or what you do with your hands. They care about what you can DO for THEM.
3. Going viral is overrated and unnecessary. I’ve had two posts that went viral-ish. I did get a lot of followers from those posts, but a lot of that exposure was not to the people that it was intended for. This is also when the trolls come out. I was ridiculed for my clothes, called stupid, and repeatedly told Realtors are worthless. I had to grow a thick skin and just realize it was part of it. On the other hand, @heardnewmanrealestate has never gone viral, and we don’t need to.
4. Nobody has “the secret.” If you ask 100 social media “experts” how to grow your following, you’ll get 100 different answers. To me, the most important secret is to simply pick a strategy and stick with it. Decision fatigue leads to procrastination. You could decide to post about your business in your stories, and your personal life on your grid, or vice versa. You could post 4 things about your business, and one thing about your family. There are a million ways to do it, and as long as you’re mixing value adding content with posts that show who you are and what you care about, you’re good.
5. If you want followers to become clients you have to talk to them! They’re not going to DM you and say, hey, come sell my house out of nowhere! You have to build a relationship with them, just like a person you meet at a coffee shop. Welcome every new follower into your world by sending them a note thanking them for the follow, engage with their content, strike up a conversation, find out their goals and their pain points and then share how you can help them. It’s called social media for a reason!
6. Showing up consistently is more than just deciding. You have to align your life and your business in a way that allows there to be space for creativity. If your business is in chaos, you’re burned out, you have no boundaries with clients, you operate reactively and you don’t delegate you’ll never have the mental clarity to be creative and create great content. If you’ve been buying courses on social media but still not finding your groove, this is why.
That’s what Elevated Agents is all about. Building a brand based business isn’t just social media. It’s a holistic approach to the way you operate your business and live your life that aligns your business with your strengths and values, which allows you to unapologetically show up and connect with the client you’re most powerfully positioned to serve.
When you have a brand based business you’ll…..
- Have mental clarity to truly own your days
- Be confident and excited about growing your business
- See a clear path towards the life you’ve always envisioned
- Have more time and space for things you love
- Become massively productive
- Magnetically attract your ideal clients
- Have a business that’s aligned, solid and sustainable
