My inspiration
I vividly remember the moment at 24 years old when I decided to step into the world of real estate. It was 2005, a time much like 2021, full of optimism and the belief that sticking a sign in the yard could effortlessly sell a house. My inspiration? A charismatic real estate agent with a white Mercedes, confidently unlocking doors and making the job look like a blast! I thought she had it all figured out.
Most of you have a story exactly like mine. We entered this industry because we are drawn by our love for people and beautiful homes, and that can overshadow the reality: real estate is not just about people and pretty houses. It’s also about running a business.
This is one of the biggest struggles for real estate agents, myself included, for many years because business training simply isn’t a part of a agent’s education. In 2016, I started creating the business tracker that I still use today. Having a system that helps you keep track of not only your clients, closings and commissions, but also where your business is coming from and the types of clients you serve is the secret to truly owning your business.
Here’s an easy to remember acronym for the 3 things your business tracker must do: OWN
- Organize: Organize your current and past clients
- Worth: Analyze your metrics to make data driven decisions
- Niche: Track where your business is coming from so you can create your niche
It’s time to decide whether you are all in, embracing the challenges and evolving with the industry, or whether it might be time to hang it up. This era demands professionals who are not just enamored by the allure of pretty houses but are resilient business leaders ready to navigate the complexities of a constantly evolving industry.
