Ready to build a team that supports your strengths? Our decade-long partnership that defied the odds

Back in 2005, my first broker told me that only family real estate partnerships work. Well, my partner Jonathan and I have proven that theory wrong! We’ve been a dynamic duo since 2014, first on someone else’s team, and then launching The Heard Newman Team in 2016. With Jonathan celebrating his 40th birthday and us marking 10 years together, I thought I’d share how we’ve built a successful partnership, racking up nearly $200 million in homes active, pending, and closed for 2024.

So, what’s our secret sauce?

Jonathan and I have complementary skills that make us a powerhouse team. Jonathan, our “outside dog,” loves driving around, scouting lots, and sealing deals on the golf course. Meanwhile, with my Master’s in PR, I thrive on crafting listing strategies, marketing, and mentoring our team and students in The Elevated Agent Collective. Together, we achieve more than we ever could alone by sticking to our “zones of genius.”

But it’s not all rainbows and unicorns.

We’re very different people, which can be annoying. He’s the tortoise—slow and steady—while I’m the hare, always in a hurry. My early morning calls and texts drive him nuts, and his slower pace frustrates me. Despite this, we’ve focused on our strengths and built a team to support us, creating opportunities for new members to shine.
